The recently instituted Government Medical College, Virudhunagar, located in the Collectorate Master Plan Complex, Koorakundu village, is a new jewel in the crown of Virudhunagar district. The college and hospital buildings, which sprawl over 22.4 acres and 15.07 acres respectively, have ultra modern and futuristic infrastructure built at a cost of Rs.380 crores, to cater to the needs of students and patients. As an eco friendly initiative, bio fencing with tree plantations has been executed in the entire college campus

The Government Medical College, Virudhunagar started functioning from January 2022. College building was inaugurated by our Prime Minister of India on 13.01.2022. Sanction has been given for admission of 150 M.B.B.S students for every academic year by the National Medical Commission, New Delhi from the year 2021-2022.
